BUT president Spencer resigns

Sean Spencer announced his resignation from the executive of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) on his Facebook page this morning.

He was first elected president in April 2018 when he defeated incumbent Pedro Shepherd and mounted a successful campaign in 2019.

There was no election in 2020 because of COVID-19.

The short statement read: “I have formally resigned from the executive of the BUT.

I wish to thank those who entrusted me with the leadership of the Union as well as those who gave me the opportunity to serve as an officer over the past five years for their support.

It was a privilege to be able to lend my efforts to the furtherance of the cause of teachers.”

In January this year, Spencer resigned from the board of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados. (SAT)
