BUT not against metal detectors

BARBADOS’ largest teachers’ union is not against using metal detectors at schools to help combat the violence.

General secretary of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT), Herbert Gittens, said that while detectors should not be the only measure put in place, he would definitely not rule them out.

He was responding to comments made by Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw last Friday after the death of 16-year-old Temario Holder, who was stabbed to death at Frederick Smith Secondary School in Trents, St James. Holder became the 42nd murder for the year. (TG)
