QEH putting $9m into COVID-19 fight

Management of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has injected nearly $9 million into its fight to stay on the front line of the COVID-19 battle.

Executive chairman Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland revealed yesterday that $5.9 million was spent on items such as ventilators, while another $3 million went to wages and supplies such as personal protective equipment (PPE).

Addressing a press conference at the hospital, Bynoe-Sutherland said the money was part of their “budgetary resources” taken from the financial year which ended before the pandemic began here as well as that for the new financial year.

“What we would have used was our resources that are in hand and basically prioritised the COVID response based on the resources we had,” she said. (GC)
