WITH CLASSES AT Combermere School being abandoned for the second time in less than a week, teachers at the school are literally sick and tired of the environmental impact.
And amid reports of teachers suffering ailments from face blisters to upset stomachs, Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) president Mary Redman has indicated that teachers at the Waterford, St Michael school can no longer tolerate this situation.
Nearby acacia trees had been identified as the possible cause of an odour affecting the students and teachers. The area is being cleared by excavators and when the trees and roots are broken they give off a nauseous smell.
“The fact is that the teachers are very upset that their situation is not being taken seriously. They feel at risk in terms of their health and well-being,” Redman told the MIDWEEK NATION.
