Travis Barker: New Blink-182 album is done

It’s been almost five years since Blink-182 released their most recent album, Neighborhoods, and now Travis Barker says the wait is almost over.

The pop-punk drummer said over the weekend that recording on the group’s seventh studio record is finished. “The album’s done, I’ll be honest with everybody,” he told “It’s just a matter of picking what 12 to 14 songs. I think we wrote 26 or 27, so everyone right now is really pushing for their favorites.”

Singer Tom DeLonge left the band in early 2015 after a public back-and-forth with Barker and bassist Mark Hoppus. Singer-guitarist Matt Skiba of the Alkaline Trio joined Barker and Hoppus in March 2015 to record the album. Barker called sessions with Skiba “great.”

“Just having someone who wants to be in the studio all the time with us has been amazing,” he said. “The proof has shown it’s great when we’re all in the studio together. I think sending tracks and sending ideas back and forth through the Internet and stuff it’s just… I don’t know. It can’t be as collaborative as it should be. I love us all being in the studio and throwing around ideas and really collaborating.”

Neighborhoods was recorded in fragments, with band members sometimes recording their respective sections of songs, then sending them to the others.
