NSC marked for job cuts

The National Sports Council (NSC) is expected to be the next state-owned enterprise to lay off staff.

News of this has come from deputy director Neil Murrell, who on Monday told THE NATION the NSC had triggered discussions with both the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) and the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) on the issue of retrenchments.

“We had a preliminary discussion with both unions last Friday outlining the stages of the process,” he said in an interview.

“As a result, we are now having a discussion with our staff regarding, first of all, voluntary separations.”
