PM won’t be moved

THERE WILL BE no compromise or negotiation on Government’s $7 million commitment to celebrate Barbados’ 50th anniversary of Independence this year.

That’s the firm stance taken by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart in the face of Opposition criticism that the money would be better spent on helping the poor and most vulnerable elements in the society.

During his contribution to debate in the House of Assembly yesterday on the Appropriations Bill 2016, Stuart “rebuked” the critics, noting that they were only echoing similar sentiments heard at the 375th anniversary celebrations of the Parliament.

He noted that the Opposition had “slandered” the celebrations and ascribed “dark motives” to the Government for having Barbadians celebrate the golden jubilee  of their Independence
