Water Fury

Some rural Barbadians who have had to contend with persistent water shortages, are fed up with depending on water trucks, but the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) is pleading for patience and cooperation.

While in some areas people said the trucks did pass regularly, they said there was nothing like turning on their own tap and seeing water flowing out.

Last week residents in parts of St Joseph made a national appeal for an ease from having to bathe in buckets and haul water in various containers to their homes for days on end. Over the weekend, it was the turn of those in St John and St Andrew to vent their frustrations.

BWA general manager Keithroy Halliday told THE NATION that personnel had been in St Joseph yesterday interacting with residents of areas such as Chimborazo, one of the water-starved districts highlighted in the last WEEKEND NATION. He said the chief issue was finding a way to increase water production and this was the problem for all affected areas in the north and east of the island.
